bareMinerals’ Top Shelf Duo: Does it Belong on the Top Shelf?

I’ve heard people rave about this little duo for at least the last few years and I’ve put off purchasing it because I just simply didn’t understand the hype.  With myriad of beautiful bronze eye colours at my disposal {read: UD Naked}, I couldn’t possibly ponder why this would be worthy oBM shadow Sephoraf my hard earned cash and something I couldn’t dupe in my existing collection.   I’m not sure what came over me, really, when the VIB 20% off sale hit.  Perhaps it was some higher beauty power, or the sheer fact I’m a self-professed shopaholic, but I took the plunge.

Enter a worthy newcomer to my existing over-populated eyeshadow collection:  Bare Minerals duo in The Top Shelf.  This retails for $25 at Sephora.  I believe this is one of {if not the only} the exclusive carriers of bareMinerals products in Canada.

According to the Sephora site, the bareMinerals Ready eyeshadow provides exceptionally vivid, long-wearing complementary colors in an ultrasmooth, silky texture for effortless application and seamless blendability. The eyeshadows contain SeaNutritive Mineral™ Complex along with powerful antioxidants, cold-pressed borage oil, caffeine, and cucumber.  What the eff, you ask?  Well these ingredients are known to deliver antiaging benefits including depuffing and antioxidant protection for a softer, smoother, revitalized eye area. The site goes on to purport that the shadow looks like a powder, but feels like a cream and delivers a beautifully vivid color.  Ultimately, this yields an u
ltrasmooth, silky texture for effortless application and seamless blendability.

I know what you’re sayin’:  woman, why you repeatin’ the Sephora site on your page?  It’s because of the simple fact that I tend to agree with all the claims…for once.  When I put it on, it feels like a cream to the touch, but blends like a powder shadow.  I’m able to amp the pigment of the bronze/gold {it’s such a unique colour I can’t peg it perfectly} up in the crease following a soft wash of all over colour, and highlight in the corner and under the brow with the highlight shade.  Sometimes, I’ll even swirl both colours together for an all-over bronzey finish.   I love that I can easily take this from day to night!  The pigmentation of these shadows is insane and I’ve not really got any dupes {ok, well I didn’t mix any and all combos, give me a break!} in my collection, namely the UD Naked palette.

Know what’s also great?  The claim that the shadow contains powerful ingredients that are known to deliver antiaging benefits including depuffing and antioxidant protection.  The colour alone had me sold.  Now?  I’m really sold.

This duo is a great staple product and gives a perfect finish to my eye look when I’m feelin’ so inclined.  I can easily wear it in my corporate daily job and use a small shader brush and some Fix+ or even a heavier hand to darken up the crease for night time.
